Do you work here?

This is a question I'm asked on a daily basis at work, and it annoys me to hell!!! As some of my regulars know me, i work for a retailer (hint: they might take over the world). I love it and hate it at the same time for the same reasons: the people i work with and the customers.

I really like my job alot. Believe it or not it keeps me sane, or maybe it used to. I interact with people, help them out whenever necessary, and have alot of friends there. I get to see alot of cute guys coming thru too. Anyway, the customers. I love them, I really do. Sometimes, these same lovely customers make me wanna throw a fucking flag.

On any given night, I can be doing various things that would alert a person that I am an employee: my name badge, my "work tools", working on freight, standing behind the counter, on the phone, making pages, etc. In my mind, i'm thinking "everyone in the area should know i work here, in this very department". I was obviously mistaken. Every single night, I will get someone walk up and ask me "do you work here". Hearing the question usually brings a deep sigh from me, with a rather annoyed "yes" or simple nod. Some of them take it a step further by asking if I work "in this department". As much stuff I do in my department, it just annoys me how they dont think i'm working over there. Do these people think that ordinary people simply walk into this store and volunteer to put stock on the shelves?

Before anyone says it, i'll say it. Yea yea I know if it wasnt for them I wouldnt have a paycheck blah blah blah. Dont get me wrong, I'll do what I have to to make the sale, but it's all for naught when we have the thieving bastards that come thru there everynite.

I sat with security just recently, and watched how a guy (who obviously knows someone on the inside, or he's staked out the area pretty well) use a DEPARTMENT KEY to make off with a prize. Someone is definitely getting wrote up for this one. Either he gained access to this key at some earlier point or someone GAVE it to him. Either way, a head is gonna roll. I just stood in awe watching the tape. I'd like to personally thank that asshole for taking a part of my fucking bonus away from me >:-|

To my beloved customers: Please.....if you see me like you see me everytime you come there, I still work there, don't ask me again. Next time you ask me that, I might just come unglued....
